The Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS) is a non-profit academic research body established in 1989 by the Greek Ministry of Education to carry out research and development activities in the area of telecommunications, systems and techniques, computer systems and their applications in transceivers, radar, electromagnetic sensors, satellite and wireless communications, electromagnetic phenomena modelling, neural networks, systems, software and hardware engineering, telematics and multimedia applications, transport applications, control systems, biomedical engineering and electric power (www.iccs.gr). It is closely associated with the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (SECE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) (est. 1837), which is the oldest and most prestigious academic institute in Greece. The personnel of ICCS consists of academic staff (~80 University Professors), 40 senior researchers and more than 500 researchers (including PhD students) in twenty research laboratories.

Short Description

Olympia Odos is a Motorway Concession Project of particular strategic importance on national and regional level for the development of the Peloponnese and Western Greece. Since Concession Commencement on August 2008, along with the construction launch, a permanent Operation organisation – the Operator (OLYMPIA ODOS OPERATION S.A.) – was established in order to provide operation and maintenance services on behalf of the Concessionaire, such as toll collection, traffic management & safety and routine maintenance. With a work force of about 500 persons, among them patrollers, intervention teams and technical maintenance personnel, and in collaboration with specialised subcontractors (light and heavy vehicles recovery, special maintenance etc.) and the emergency services (Traffic Police and Fire Brigade), the Operator works ceaselessly around the clock and throughout the year for the unobstructed operation, the provision of high level services for road assistance and safety to the motorists, as well as for achieving a high level of corrective and preventive maintenance. The Motorway includes: 2 existing motorway sections Elefsina – Korinthos (ELKO) and Patra by Pass (PbP) and the National Road from Korinthos to Patras, conventionally called Korinthos-Patra NNR (KOPA) 120 km long, the construction and upgrade of which to motorway was completed in 2017.
